B12 & Therapeutic Nutrient Injections
B12 & Therapeutic Nutrient Injections

Injectable nutrients such as B12 may be used when clinically indicated to address deficiencies, support energy production, or assist neurological function.

Naturopathic Health Services
Not all naturopathic doctors can prescribe hormones or administer therapeutic doses of select nutrients; however, in 2016, I successfully completed additional training and certification to do so.
My scope of practice includes access to a list of controlled substances, including Bio-identical Hormones (estrogen and progesterone), Desiccated Thyroid and Intramuscular Injections of B12 and Folate.

Why B12 is Important

Vitamin B12 is important in red blood cell synthesis (when there is not enough B12, macrocytic anemia occurs) and energy levels. B12 is also involved in regulating homocysteine levels (elevated homocysteine levels can increase cardiovascular risk). Low B12 can also lead to peripheral neuropathy.

How People Become Deficient in B12

Some people may not be getting the appropriate amount of dietary sources of B12 and become deficient. More often than not, people have low B12 levels because they are not absorbing nutrients well. Although B12 injections can be helpful in these cases, I work with my patients to ensure they are getting dietary sources of B12, and work on their digestive process so that they can absorb all of their nutrients bettter.

Determining if B12 Injections are Appropriate for You

Assessing B12 levels (and other parameters) in blood work is part of determining whether or not you would benefit from B12 injections.
