A thoughtful approach to hormone therapy
Menopausal hormone therapy can be a helpful option for some people navigating perimenopause and menopause, particularly when symptoms begin to affect daily life. It is not a default approach, but one of several tools that may be considered. Care is individualized, with attention to your symptoms, health history, and comfort level. The goal is to support how you feel now, while also considering your long-term health.

What it is

Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) uses hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and in some cases testosterone to support the body as natural hormone levels decline.

It can help reduce symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption and vaginal dryness, while supporting overall quality of life.

How it works

Estrogen is used to help stabilize systems affected by hormonal changes, including temperature regulation, sleep, mood and the health of vaginal and urinary tissues.

For those with a uterus, progesterone is included to support the uterine lining.

Treatment may be delivered in different forms, including oral, topical, or localized therapies, depending on your symptoms and health history.

What it can support

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Sleep disruption
  • Vaginal dryness and discomfort
  • Urinary symptoms or recurrent infections
  • Mood changes related to hormonal shifts

In some cases, when used at the right time, it may also support bone health and aspects of cardiovascular health.

Safety and considerations

Hormone therapy is not appropriate for everyone.

Careful consideration is given to your personal and family history, along with your current health, to determine whether it is a suitable option. When used, it is prescribed at the lowest effective dose, with ongoing monitoring and adjustments as needed.

A considered approach

Hormone therapy is one option within a broader plan of care.

You will be supported in understanding the benefits, risks and alternatives, so that any decision feels informed and aligned with your health goals.
